Homemade Applesauce

Homemade Applesauce serves: 2 servings (about 3/4 cup or 180 ml per serving)
Prep Time: 5 minutes | Cook Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 20 minutes/ hours

Ingredients:

  • 2 Granny Smith apples (peel optional), cored and roughly chopped into 1/2-inch (13 mm) pieces
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp lemon juice (about 1/4 fresh lemon)

Instructions:

  1. Read through recipe and put all ingredients in your work area before starting your prep.
  2. In a small saucepan, bring all ingredients except lemon juice to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to a simmer for 10–15 minutes, until apples are tender. Add lemon juice.
  3. Mash with a potato masher for a smoother sauce, if desired. Serve hot or cold.

Notes:

Simplify this recipe: Use 3 cups (360 g) pre-chopped apples instead of chopping your own.
Storage tip: Leftover applesauce will keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Reheating tip: Place a small splash of water in a small pan and add leftover applesauce. Cook over medium-low heat until warmed through, about 2–3 minutes.
